What is your favorite thing about VBA? The community and the friendships I have have formed.

Favorite Austin spot? Seeing the sunrise at Mount Bonnell. It's really nice at 5:30 AM when no one is there and the sun begins to rise.

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? I make it a point to know everyone who plays in the league by name.

Where are you from? Austin. BORN AND RAISED, don't @ me

What brought you to Austin? Myself, because I am an I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T, strong introvert, that hates the cold

How long have you been playing volleyball/playing in VBA? My first season was Fall 2014, team name Heathers. The CHAMPIONS of that season so don't get it twisted.

When and why did you join the board? I think I joined in 2016 with the intentions of making the league more accessible to a wide variety of people and to enjoy the company of others.

What is your favorite thing about VBA? The people and the sports. I love me some volleyball ever since doing it in college intramurals. I also met a lot of great people in VBA. Almost all of my friends are in VBA.

*dramatic music starts playing*

Without VBA, I would be nothing...

*mascara runs*

NOTHING!!!

Favorite Austin spot? My bed...with the A/C on 70... and the ceiling fan on Power Ranger.

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? Did you know that I won 3rd place in a child pageant one time. That's right, 2nd Runner up, and if that does not command respect, nothing will.

Also, I love horror movies. But it's hard seeing others living out my dream of being taken out by a monster or serial killer. Y'all, adulting is hard, and I am done with my trial version, hahaha

Where are you from? Born and raised here in Austin, Texas.

What brought you to Austin? My parents. The reason I have stayed is because I have never found another city quite like Austin.

How long have you been playing volleyball/playing in VBA? I started out playing Sand Volleyball for about 1 - 2 years. Then a friend introduced me to indoor volleyball and I have never gone back since. I have been playing with VBA for about 3 years.

When and why did you join the board? I joined the board in May of 2019. I have always wanted to feel a closer connection to my LGBT+ community. Volleyball Austin has really done that for me. By joining the board it is not only a way for me to give back, but also a way to help elevate this amazing league.

What is your favorite thing about VBA? The people for sure. I have literally met someone new almost every single week. Some of the VBA family are now some of my closest friends.

Favorite Austin spot? One thing I love just a little less then volleyball is food. I'm such a major foodie! There are so many great spots to eat in Austin. Some of my favorites are Gabrielas Downtown, Copper Restaurant & Dessert Lounge and Wu Chow.

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? That I am married to my amazing husband Jason Ostler and that we have been together for 10+ years. Even though he does not play in the league (yet), you can usually find him chopping up the beats Tuesdays and Fridays at a VBA gym near you.

Where are you from? Corpus Christi, TX (she's a hometown gurl like Selena and Whataburger)

What brought you to Austin? UT Austin

How long have you been playing volleyball/playing in VBA? I played intramurals all throughout undergrad and took the volleyball class every semester as my "mental health/self-care" class. My first season with VBA was Spring 2017 and she ended up winning "Offensive Specialist" that season as well as the intermediate division champs! Fun fact: a couple of my volleyball friends from way back freshman year at UT play in VBA as well (shoutout to Javi and Inmer!)

When and why did you join the board? I first got involved with the board in early 2018 as Member-At-Large and voted onto the board as Sponsorship Director in November 2018. My goal as Sponsorship Director is to expand and grow the league into an organization that utilizes the sport of volleyball as a tool of community organizing and leadership development for all our members.

What is your favorite thing about VBA? Definitely the community and not just because I'm the most popular gurl in the league. As queer people, I think it's important for us to find our own sense of tribe and VBA is that tribe for me and many of the amazing people I have met ever since my first season many moons ago.

Favorite Austin spot? The running trail at Town Lake! You can usually catch me there weekday evenings after work or weekend mornings looking a hot sweaty mess.

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? I'm perfect. I'm beautiful. I look like Linda Evangelista. I'm a model. Everything about me is perfect. I sure did stone these tights. I can walk out there in a diaper and they're like: "Sergio! Your smile is beautiful!"

Where are you from? The Cuntry AKA Bellville, TX

What brought you to Austin? UT Austin

How long have you been playing volleyball/playing in VBA? My mom was a volleyball coach growing up so since early childhood, I played more formally in college, and I joined VBA in Summer 2018.

Favorite Austin spot? I feel obligated to say Pease Park because I work for Pease Park Conservancy, but really any part of Austin's Greenbelt.

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? I have a weird thing about honesty. For example, when I was 7 my parents lied to the Motel 6 to get out of their reservation and I had this massive conipshit about it because in that moment I realized adults could lie, and consequently Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, etc. were all lies, nothing was real, and life was meaningless. Now you can ask me any question and I'll answer truthfully!

Where are you from? Odessa, Texas

What brought you to Austin? UT Austin was always my dream school. After my sister was recruited to play softball here, I made the move as well. I later finished my education at UT and have made ATX home.

Favorite Austin spot? If it's not my house full of my friends then I'd say the greenbelt!

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? I love volleyball but softball is my first love! I can fast-pitch underhand and used to pitch to the UT women's softball team! It allowed me to travel around the nation while my sister was on the team and even allowed me to be a participant at the 2013 WCWS!

Where are you from? St. Louis, Missouri

What brought you to Austin? I wanted a change from the Midwest. I have always stayed with what I know and it was time for a change. It was between New York, Los Angeles or Austin and Austin was the most financial place to land! ð???

How long have you been playing volleyball/playing in VBA? I started playing for fun since 2nd grade. Did some club in middle school and high school as well but took a break mid high school and started it again once I moved to Austin. Started in the sand community first and then I was asked to join VBA Fall 2014 and now I have a new family I love dearly.

When and why did you join the board? I officially joined the board August 2018, but I have been volunteering with them since the 1st season in 2014. I cannot recall who asked me to help with ratings but I agreed and from there I was hooked. I am one of those people who like to be involved in activities that make me happy and help me live my life to the fullest. It took me awhile to find a group of friends and VBA helped me with that. I wanted to return the favor ð???

What is your favorite thing about VBA? Being able to play the sport I love with my friends that I consider as family.

Favorite Austin spot? That is really tough to say as there is so much to do in Austin. Whenever friends come to visit me, I like to show them the graffiti all over town. The artistic beauty of Austin makes me love the city so much!

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you?  My first sport is actually Tae Kwon Do. I started at the age of 5 and competed in State, National and Open competitions at 8 years old. I won almost every competition and am a 4th degree black belt. I stopped competing in Tae Kwon Do because I loved volleyball more.

When and why did you join the board? I joined the board in May of 2019. I enjoy being involved in such a rewarding, community-building atmosphere. Before I joined, I made it a point to try and be involved as much as possible and I figured I should try and make it official.

What is your favorite thing about VBA? Definitely the people-the community. Everyone is warm and welcoming and will make you feel like you belong. It's like being a part of a large family!

Favorite Austin spot? Oooo that's a tough one. It usually varies by weather and time of the day, lol. On a nice, sunny, breezy day, I love hiking the greenbelt with my dog. A close second would be Bout Time II on latin nights!
