Where are you from? Austin. BORN AND RAISED, don't @ me

What is your favorite thing about VBA? The uniqueness of the structure (ratings) and it being volleyball with great people.

Favorite Austin spot? If Austin would stop trying to fry or freeze me, I’m sure there is a special spot out there for me to discover. For now, my living room, which looks out to the extreme weather outside.

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? I flew actual airplanes in a past life, I officiated and can officiate weddings, I love puns and simple jokes, e.g. “Paper straws suck, but not as much as they should.”

What is your favorite thing about VBA? The different divisions, the game play, the referees provided, all the volleyball and social events around the league seasons and most of all the people I've met and friendships formed!

Favorite Austin spot? Moontower Saloon for the 3 sand vball courts, lights, live music, food and drinks.

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? I've traveled about 30,000 miles across the U.S. and I'm adopted.

What brought you to Austin? I originally came to Austin to attend the University of Texas and I loved it so much that I ended up staying here.

How long have you been playing volleyball/playing in VBA? It's been 84 years....at least it feels like it. I think I've played since I was in middle school and then continued playing in high school and clubs. I joined VBA in the fall of 2017.

When and why did you join the board? I joined the board in May 2019. I enjoy being involved in such a rewarding, community-building atmosphere. Before I joined, I made it a point to try and be involved as much as possible and I figured I should try and make it official.

What is your favorite thing about VBA? Definitely the people, the community. Everyone is warm and welcoming and will make you feel like you belong. It's like being a part of a large family!

Favorite Austin spot? Oooo that's a tough one. It usually varies by weather and time of the day. On a nice, sunny, breezy day, I love hiking the greenbelt with my dog. A close second would be Bout Time II on Latin nights!

Where are you from? All over Florida. Born in Hialeah, raised in Orlando, Gainesville for college, and Delray Beach after college before moving to Austin in late 2019!

What brought you to Austin? I asked my job of 5 years if they were ok with me working remotely and they said sure. I needed to get out of Florida before I turned into a certified Florida Man so I narrowed it down to Austin, Salt Lake City, and Boston. I usually overanalyze things, but one day I was like "I need a sign" on where to move while walking through the Charlotte airport. Right after I thought that I turned the corner and there was a "Visit Austin" sign. And that's all she wrote.

How long have you been playing volleyball/playing in VBA? Played intramurals a bit in college. My first VBA open play was in October 2022 and my first season started in January 2023.

When and why did you join the board? It was hard for an introverted guy like me to make friends moving here without knowing anyone while working remotely and immediately before a pandemic. VBA gave me a sense of community that I previously never had so as a board member I want to do my best to make others feel as welcome as I did when I joined. :)

What is your favorite thing about VBA? People who cheer over the top for every point. If you aren't screaming for each other like a borderline lunatic after every point, I don't want it. Especially for those people who you know are putting in the work to get better, give them that extra love!

Favorite Austin spot? Brunch Brunch Baby at the AMLI South Shore food truck area. I go after every weekend workout. Get the Diamonds n Pearls smoothie and a Rye's n Shine sandwich. Thank me when you do.

Something interesting you would like VBA members to know about you? I plan to go to Africa (Tanzania) within the next 5 years and Antarctica (wherever the penguins are) in the next 10 to round out my 7 continents.
