Fact Sheet

Divisions/Format

Our season will consist of Advanced, Competitive, and Intermediate divisions. All games will be on Friday evenings at Round Rock Sports Center (2400 Chisholm Trail).

All players must be rated before the start of the season so that their skill level can be accurately assessed. Rating sessions are required for new players, and optional for returning players who feel that their skills have changed/grown between seasons.

We hold rating sessions before each season, so check our calendar on Facebook for times and dates.

Skill Level

The following is how skill levels are determined to help you decide which division you should play inâ?¦

Advanced

Our most skilled players will fall into the Advanced Division.  This group will have expert knowledge of the game, and consistently outperform the majority of players. Advanced knowledge of plays, like shoots and slides, as well as strong fundamentals and a knowledge of 5-1/6-2 rotations is required. The NAGVA (North America Gay Volleyball Association) ratings that would align to this division would be AA/A and BB.  The Volleyball Austin ratings for this division are approximately 7.5-10.

Competitive

This group has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the game, and would be of caliber to represent Volleyball Austin in NAGVA tournaments.  A player in this division must understand positions, rotations, plays, and rules.  The NAGVA ratings that would align to this division would be BB and B.  The Volleyball Austin ratings for this division are approximately 4.5-7.5.

Intermediate

This group shows a better understanding of the fundamentals of the game. A player in this division must demonstrate good passing technique, understanding of the pass-set-hit flow of play, as well as beginning knowledge of positions and rotations.  The NAGVA ratings that would align to this division would be lower Bs.  The Volleyball Austin ratings for this division are approximately 2.5-4.5.

Recreational (Not Available Spring 2017)

Players new to the game, recently back after a long break, or with a lower skill level will fall into the Recreation Division. The Volleyball Austin ratings for this division are approximately 0-2.5. Though still competitive, this is meant for players who either just want to have fun, or are looking to begin learning (or re-learning) the game.

Teams

Volleyball Austin will identify team managers for each division who will assemble their own teams using a draft system based on the players ratings. This is done to ensure skill equity among the teams within and to reduce skill disparity within the teams.

If you are joining the league with friends and would like to be on the same team email a list of the names of players that you would like be kept together to  info@volleyballaustin.com. We will try to work with team managers to honor requests within reason, but please note that a players skill level will determine what division they play in.
All teams are required to provide line judges and score-keepers throughout the season.

League Fees

The player fees for all player is $55 (Late Registration Fee: $65). The fee includes all equipment and a Volleyball Austin t-shirt for each participant.

There is a $5 fee to attend an open play session. Teaching clinics will be free, but limited to a first-come, first-served RSVP list.

If the player fee is an obstacle to you registering for Volleyball Austin, we have a limited number of scholarships available to qualified players.  Email info@volleyballaustin.com for more information.
